SOUTHERN Mavericks’ men’s team coach Joe Mujuru believes the mid-season break will not affect the team’s momentum when the Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) league continues in January.
Mavericks who have gone for six matches unbeaten and are on course to their fourth title in a row, top the league table with 12 points.
“We have had a pretty good start to the season. We won the Highlanders tournament, got to the semi-finals of the Lakers invitational tournament and have not lost a game in the league. I am very happy with the way the team has played.
“We have set our sight on winning the league title for a fourth consecutive season. When the league resumes next year, fans can expect to see a team which is determined to die on the court should it come to that,” Mujuru said.
Meanwhile, Southern Mavericks ladies team went to the mid-season break in style after beating Lakers Senior 43-31 last week at Khanyisile Sports Centre.
In other women’s matches played before the break, Divas lost 23-65 to Angels with Lakers Juniors beating Highlanders 44-20 while Lakers Seniors clobbered Lupane State University (LSU) 83-9.
In the men’s category, City Knights lost 61-72 to Oilers while Highlanders beat Ostriches 53-50.
