Mavhaire rallies churches

harmonised polls.

He said Zanu-PF was the only political party that was predisposed to give dignity to indigenous people.
Addressing Zion and Apostolic sects leaders in Masvingo during a preparatory meeting for the provincial Day of Prayer on Sunday, Cde Mavhaire said the former liberation movement and indigenous churches were inseparable as they had a common agenda.

“I want to challenge indigenous churches to make sure that they mobilise their supporters to vote for Zanu-PF at the forthcoming elections because we share the same agenda. Our agenda is to preserve Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and independence that came at a great cost of our blood,” said Cde Mavhaire.

“Indigenous churches have a critical role to play in the preservation of our independence which is under threat from neo-imperial forces that want to reverse the gains of our independence. The relationship between Zanu-PF and indigenous churches dates back to the days of the liberation struggle.”

He said it was crucial for indigenous churches to support Zanu-PF at the forthcoming polls saying the party was the only political establishment concerned about the empowerment of Zimbabweans.

The coming elections, said Cde Mavhaire, were important in the history of Zimbabwe as they offered the last chance to inflict a final blow on imperialism and its local agents.

Addressing the same gathering Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe Masvingo provincial chairman Bishop Lyphet Matenda said indigenous churches in the province would pray for President Mugabe and Zanu-PF to further entrench the right of Zimbabweans to self-determination.
