Muchena burial today

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantine Chiwenga described Grp Capt Muchena as a hardworking woman whose death left a huge void, in a speech read on his behalf by Air Vice Marshal Titus Abu Basutu.

“It was shocking and disheartening to learn that such a dedicated liberator who joined the struggle is no more,” said Gen Chiwenga. “She rose through the ranks to become a loyal and experienced senior officer whose services were critically required in the AFZ. She was a studious, hardworking, dedicated and reliable officer who put the defence services before self.”

Born in Mutare on February 1, 1959, Grp Capt Muchena experienced the brutality of the colonial regime at the age of 17. This prompted her to abandon school to take up arms in the liberation struggle. Grp Capt Muchena is survived by four children. Mourners are gathered at Number 5, 36 Avenue Mabelreign, Harare.
