AS the ZIFA Matabeleland South Division Two league heats up, table toppers Mawabeni FC have maintained their pole position on the standings following the completion of week 12 of fixtures.

Mawabeni – who are proving to be title contenders in the early stages – are one point ahead of second placed Super Strikers. The ambitious table toppers are on 25 points from 12 outings while the chasing Super Strikers are on 24.

The community run Mawabeni side produced a 5-0 drubbing of Horn Mine in their week 12 encounter, which was the highest winning margin on that round of matches. The five goals they scored this past week increased their goal scoring tally this season to 16, while only conceding twice.

Keen to follow the footsteps of Stars United from the same district which played in Division One and gave a good account of themselves in the 1990s, Mawabeni have won seven of their 12 games while sharing the spoils on four occasions. They have only tasted defeat once.

With Mawabeni leading the pack with 25 points, while Super Strikers are on 24, in third place there is Gwanda Pirates with 22 points, tied with fourth placed Delete. Completing the top five is West Academy on 16 points.

Jessie sits in number six also with 16 points and are followed by Stubbs and Blanket in position seven and eight on 15 and 12 points respectively.

The bottom three is made up of Horn Mine, BOYS, and UNICEM on 10, seven and five points respectively.
