Mawiwi has faith in his men

THE opening match of the OneWallet Cup gets underway in a lunch-time kick-off at Mandava today when Harare City and Triangle clash in what should be a close contest between the two Premiership sides.
Harare City, who were strong contenders in last year’s championship race, started the season on a low note but have since found their way and picked some big points in recent weeks in the league.

Bigboy Mawiwi, the Harare City coach, said he has a lot of respect for his opponents.

“Triangle is a good side with a great coach so I have so much respect for the team and we will take them seriously in the game,” said Mawiwi.

“We are all struggling in the Premiership but there can be change of fortunes in the Cup games so we will try our best to progress to the next round. “Playing away from home will give us a chance to asses ourselves and it is good as we will be able to give some players a run in these games.

“I have faith in my players and I am hopeful we will progress to the next stage.”

Harare City have found their range in recent weeks and this has brought calm into their camp which was flooded with rumours that Mawiwi was running out of time at the Sunshine Boys. “I am happy with the progress we have made so far and the team has improved and I owe this to unity of purpose within our camp,” said Mawiwi. “Everyone is working towards the same goal and we are one family which makes results attainable.”

Mawiwi will have to do without Talent Chawapihwa and Nomore John, who are out injured, but said they have enough depth to provide cover.

“We will miss two players in Chawapihwa and John, who suffered some injuries in our last encounters but we have a large pool of players who can do duty at any time,” said Mawiwi.

Triangle coach Biggie Zuze said they were ready to play their part and come out of the battle with a victory.

“We are well prepared for the encounter and this is an opportunity to prove ourselves. We now have a wide range of selection options, especially in midfield, where we now have Cabby Kamhapa, who joined us from Chicken Inn.

“The game is totally different from a league match and so we will try to attack from the onset,” Zuze said.

The match, which will be broadcast live on SuperSport, will get underway at 1pm and is the curtain-raiser to the other match between FC Platinum and Chicken Inn, which will also be beamed live from 3pm.
