Celebrated Zimbabwean mbira group Mawungira eNharira are set to mark the end of winter in style with a bash dubbed “Bira Remavhara Chando” at Book Café tonight.The mbira group will join forces with upcoming group Madhonza Makuru in their farewell show before they leave for South Africa next week.“We always strive to embrace the ways of our ancestors who used to celebrate life events through biras, for example to celebrate the rains or success.

“At the same time, fans can brace themselves for a special performance since it will also be a farewell show before we leave for a performance in Johannesburg,” said band leader Wilfred “MaAfrica” Nyamasvisva.

The dreadlocked mbira player also spoke on his collaboration with Madhonza Makuru.

“As an established group, we always strive to uplift the youngsters by working with them to give them exposure. Madhonza Makuru is a hardworking group and we are confident their performance will be up to scratch at the Bira Remavhara Chando,” he said.

Mawungira eNharira have been in existence since 2005.
To date, they have five albums with a sizzling sixth expected soon.

“In the upcoming show, we are expecting to sample some of the best songs that we have produced from the time we broke on the music scene eight years ago.

“We will also play tracks from the upcoming nine-track album, titled Vhunza Mutupo,” he con- cluded.
“Vhunza Mutupo” was written by Nyamasvisva, who is a former band member for Mbira dzeNharira

According to Nyamasvisva, the album is still being mastered.
