Mawungira eNharira shakes again

Tafadzwa Zimoyo Entertainment Reporter
Mbira Dzenharira splinter group Mawungira eNharira has been hit by splits that have often shaken the mbira outfit. Chief among the splits was the departure of the cream of the group to form Mbira Nhare Dzechirorodziva some years ago.Mawungira eNharira has been shaken again following the departure of its two members.

Dealon Muchaka and Tonderai Ndava have left the group to form their own outift called Matombo eNharira Dzamushore.

Muchaka said the reason for the departure was that they wanted to grow.

“It is a good move as we have seen that it is time to grow and practice what we have learnt. If we have different groups singing one genre it gives room for competition. It is high time we shine with our talents. We thank Mawungira eNharira for grooming us well,” he said.

He said the split is not new to them as they also parted ways with Mbira Dzenharira in 2005.

“We are still a family with both groups and I can safely say that in the gwenyambiras world we don’t hold grudges or beefs but we just love each other. All we want is to grow and promote the culture,” he said.

Muchaka (29) said they are already working on an album which will be out early next month.

“Our album will be out by February and will be entitled “Gwira Nenzara Mugomo Renharira” and most of the songs composed are inspired by our background and societal settings. The culture aspect is not left out,” he said.

Muchaka said musicians should preserve our culture and heritage.

“Music is an art and our culture plays an important role in moulding such art. Our culture defines us so it should be preserved,” he said.

He later highlighted that some promoters from countries such as Spain and India have already shown interest in developing the gwenyambiras.

“We are working with promoters from Spain and India who want to assist in the development of our art centres and I urge all gwenyambiras to come on board so as to benefit as this is for us all. We should all speak with one voice and I believe the on-coming programme will serve a purpose,” he said.

Mawungira eNharira leader, Wilfred Tichaona MaAfrika, said he was not aware of the new development.

“It is news to me as Dealon never told me about it. I have worked well with him and I am surprised about that information,” said MaAfrika.
