MANICA Youth Assembly (MAYA) last Saturday planted more than 50 Whistling Pine trees in the deforested Dangamvura Mountain along Feruka Road as part of their World Environmental Day commemorations.
They also used the occasion to remember youths who succumbed to Covid-19 .
World Environment Day is marked annually on June 5.
In an interview, MAYA director, Jussah Kudherezera said they want to create awareness among people on the need to safeguard the environment.
“World Environmental Day seeks to inspire more people to take action to prevent the growing strain on our natural environment.
“As MAYA, we planted more than 50 trees as part of this year’s commemorations. We also used this occasion to remember all youths who succumbed to Covid-19,” said Kudherezera.
Students from Marymount Teachers’ College and ZimParks officers graced the occasion.
ZimParks representative, Mr Jonathan Mashava, urged youths to plant more trees.
