Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has assured residents that they will have water during Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
This follows a shutdown in the last few days at Morton Jaffray Water Works after a major power outage resulted in damages to the plant’s pumping equipment.
He added that pumping has resumed and supply of water will improve progressively to the affected suburbs during the course of the day.
He also assured residents that council water is safe to drink and castigated people who peddle unfounded aspersions on Harare water.
He was speaking after touring the plant this morning to get an appreciation of the severe pumping challenges faced by the City of Harare after the pump station was flooded by water following the sudden power outage.
The mayor was accompanied by all directors whom he said are at work throughout the festive season to make sure that service delivery is not affected.
