adminClr Moyo on Tuesday received the controversial donation of 20 litter bins from a gay and lesbians pressure group, Sexual Rights Centre (SRC), sparking outrage from residents and civic organisations, who said the development was culturally improper.
The residents said Clr Moyo should have turned down the donation or consulted them before accepting the donation.
However, during Wednesday’s full council meeting, Clr Moyo maintained that there was nothing wrong with receiving the donation and said he was happy with it.
“We are not regretting accepting those bins and to Mr Press (Chronicle Reporter) you thought we are going to regret it, but no we are not regretting,” said Clr Moyo.
He said the bins would contribute to the cleanliness of the city. The Mayor has warned that anyone who dares vandalise the bins will live to regret it.
“Let me say whoever vandalises those bins will be made to pay,” Clr Moyo said on Tuesday when he received the bins.
He said a donation of the 20 bins was not a joke, but something to be pleased about.

Deputy Mayor Clr Amen Mpofu echoed Clr Moyo’s sentiments saying the Press should instead appreciate the gesture.
“The donation is a positive development and we were therefore shocked to see a screaming headline in the newspaper the next day. I think people need to appreciate such donations meant to help keep the city clean,” said Clr Mpofu.
He said the bins were a noble donation.
The 20 metal bins, all pink in colour have an inscription Sexual Rights Centre.
The colour pink is often associated with gays and lesbians.
Prime Minister and MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai is on record telling BBC that he supports gay rights. He said their rights should be included in the new constitution, a position analysts have described as a desperate attempt to get funding from the West.
