HULKY Mutare’s Body Focus Gym bodybuilder, Brighton Mazikana, who recently won a ticket to represent the country in the Mr Universe finals in Italy, has set his eyes on claiming the Mr Iron Man title to be held tomorrow (Saturday). The event is set for Odessey Hotel in Kadoma under the theme: ‘I am ZimStrong’ and has been scheduled to commence at 9am.
This year’s edition of the Mr Iron Man contest will have six categories namely senior men bodybuilding, junior men bodybuilding (Under-21), ladies’ figure, men fitness physic, disabled men and female bodybuilding.
Mazikana will come face to face with the defending champion, Isaac “Sugar” Chimurenga, the current Mr Zimbabwe middleweight champion, Blessing Samaringa, Eddie Marondera, Garikai Mujuru and Partson Chatedzuka among others.
In an interview, Mazikana told The Post Sport said he had what it takes to bring the coveted title to Manicaland.
“I am more than ready and confident enough to be the best among the best. I have no doubt that I am coming back with the Mr Iron man title just like I did at the Zim Classics two weeks ago. I am going to show them what the boys from the Eastern Highlands are made of,” said Mazikana.
Manicaland Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (MABBFA) chairman, Farai ‘Talawa’ Kasecha, said he would like to thank the fast growing Mazikana for doing very well this year.
“We are confident that the Mr Iron title is coming to the East. Mazikana has done the MABBFA proud this year and we shall continue to support him in the upcoming events.
“We also encourage other bodybuilders to follow suit and believe in themselves whenever they take part in these competitions. Confidence and hardworking is all that it requires,” said Kasecha.
Meanwhile, preparations for the Mr and Ms Manicaland Bodybuilding competitions set for October 3 at Courtauld Theatre in Mutare are progressing on well.
Kasecha said an executive meeting to discuss progress and the way forward would be held on Monday at Courtauld Theatre from 1pm.
He passionately pleaded with the local business community to assist the sport in its quest to produce bodybuilding icons.
“The main agenda of this meeting is about how to attract more sponsorship. I would like to urge all bodybuilders to train very hard for this biggest event in the province which is definitely going to be bigger and better,” he said.
Both males and females will take part in the Mr and Ms Manicaland Bodybuilding competitions, with seniors and juniors in fitness figures, bench-press, dead lifts and martial arts displays from various masters in town, the likes of Master Charles ‘Mhondoro’ Sambare.
The MABBFA is however appealing for sponsorship from all businesspeople in Mutare and Manicaland as a whole to make this year’s event a resounding success.
