Six schools in Mazowe rural district have been selected to pioneer the implementation of e-learning services after the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education approved a proposal from a private business developer, LeapTech.

This was revealed by the Zanu PF District Co-Coordinating Committee (DCC), secretary for education Advocate Norbet Mazungunye who said the ministry has since approved the project with all preparations underway to kick-start the programme this week.

“I initially engaged LeapTech, a privately owned indigenous company which has developed a new e-learning application system after we noticed that several schools in the province are still lagging behind in online learning. After consultation with the ministry, an approval was granted with Mazowe leading the pilot project.

“This is also in line with new thrust by the ministry on online learning underpinned by new e-learning strategy. There is going to be more emphasis on online learning in the coming years because the conventional method alone will not work given how the Covid 19 pandemic is affecting normal learning processes,” said Adv Mazungunye.

The six schools that have been selected include Gweshe Primary School, Rujeko Secondary School, Foothills Road Primary School, Dandamera Secondary School, Mvurwi High School and Tsungubvi Primary school.

Meanwhile, the Mashonaland provincial education director, Mrs Naome Chikosha confirmed the project and added that the pilot is only running up to December and should prioritise marginalised schools.

“Yes, it is true that we have given a nod to the pilot project and we have since written to the Mazowe district schools inspector with regard to that. We are emphasising that the programme benefit marginalised schools not those that are already privileged. In the event that the pilot project is successful, we will extend it to other districts in the province,” said Mrs Chikosha.
