MBA to host Chari Gonzo tournament

MANICALAND Basketball Association will tomorrow (Saturday) host the Chari Gonzo tournament in memory of a Mercenaries Basketball player who passed on two years ago. Chari Gonzo passed on in 2012. The late Mercenaries player participated in the national basketball league final in Bulawayo the previous year where they came second.

The tournament which has been named after his name will be held at Mutare Boy’s High School.
Manicaland Basketball Association spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo, confirmed the tournament and said all the necessary logistics were now in place.

“Chari Gonzo tournament has been named after the late Gonzo who played for Mercenaries. The tournament will be held at Mutare Boys’ High under the sponsorship of Stolz Clothing. It will start at 11am.

“Seven teams, Mercenaries, City Sophists, Africa University, Sakubva hurricanes, Chikanga Basketball Club, Chiefs and Dangamvura K Knights are expected to participate.

“Each team that will participate will receive a basketball kit. Winners will walk away with shields. There will be other competitions other than the basketball matches.
“They will be dunking competitions and three point competitions.

“We call upon people to come in their numbers and watch the top basketball players in Manicaland in action,” said Dhliwayo.
