In a brief ceremony at the Mbada Diamonds offices in Harare yesterday, the company’s corporate services executive George Manyaya, Star FM General Manager Admire Taderera, and Star FM marketing executive Piwai Dzuda, signed the deal.
Manyaya said he hopes the good working relationship with Zimpapers will continue.
“We hope with this agreement there is more to come. We are not into sports only but we cover all sectors like health and education.
“Maybe we were biased with Zimpapers who have shown professionalism whenever we dealt with them. The draw will be live tomorrow (today) and the tournament will begin on the 14th. Our motto is harnessing the diamonds for the people and this tournament is not for us but the people of Zimbabwe,” said Manyaya.
Star FM boss Taderera, was naturally pleased with securing a partnership with the giant firm three months after going on air as the first commercial radio in this country.
“Thank you for showing confidence in us. We are a new player and we are just three months into broadcasting. We will not disappoint and you will not regret. Our sports team is ready to run this tournament as they have been running other sporting activities,” said Taderera.
Mbada Diamonds Cup chairperson Lloyd Mutsata, said they felt humbled to partner a radio station like Star FM and expects good coverage of their tournament.
He also unveiled the signature songs, which would be the tournament’s anthems, as the country’s biggest football knockout tourney begins next weekend.
