A MBADA Diamonds Company employee was last week dragged before the courts on allegations of stealing 10 pieces of diamonds.
Appearing before senior Mutare magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura, Shakespeare Isaiah Marange (26) of Machedye Village, Chief Marange, pleaded guilty to theft charges and breaching Section 3(1) of the Precious Stones Trade Act chapter 21.6 which criminalises the possession of diamonds without a permit.
Mr Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.
The court heard that on March 10, around 6 am, Marange, who was employed as an electrician by Mbada Diamond Company, commenced his duties of maintaining electricity at the diamond plant.
While he was inside the plant, the accused stole ten pieces of diamonds.
When he knocked off duty at around 6 pm Marange passed through the scan where it was noted that he had stolen something from the plant.
Marange was wearing a hard hat, a pair of safety shoes and had a pen.
He was searched and it was discovered that he had stolen ten pieces of diamonds which he had wrapped with a black insulating tape and stashed them into the pen’s barrel.
He was then arrested.
