YOU can’t make this up! A man named Mbanje has been arrested for dealing in mbanje.
Langton Mbanje (33) of Cowdray Park is in serious trouble after detectives caught him red-handed with 52 sachets of ganja, also known locally as mbanje, buried in a pit and stashed in a drink container.
He appeared before Western Commonage Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga facing charges of possessing dangerous drugs. The matter was remanded to 1 July 2025.
According to prosecutor Tafara Dzimbanhete, police received a tip-off on 13 June that Mbanje was dealing in mbanje near his home, where he spent most of his days.
Detectives went undercover and watched as the accused suspiciously dug a small pit, dropped a plastic bag inside, and covered it with soil.
When Mbanje tried to walk away, the law swooped in.
“Detectives approached the accused, introduced themselves and conducted a search. They dug up the pit and recovered a plastic bag containing 38 sachets of loose dagga,” said Dzimbanhete.
The weed wizard had more drugs up his sleeve as a further search led to the discovery of 14 sachets hidden in an empty Revive drink container.
All 52 sachets were taken to the Bulawayo Main Post Office, where they weighed 207 grams with a street value of ZIG 5 796.
Now Langton Mbanje joins the long list of backyard dealers who thought they were smarter than the system but got smoked instead.
From namesake to handcuffs, it’s safe to say this Mbanje was high on bad decisions.
