Mbare’s urban renewal is close to President Mnangagwa’s heart hence he directed that the Mbare Traders Market be constructed swiftly following an inferno that destroyed stalls and wares last month.
President Mnangagwa declared Mbare Traders Market a state of disaster after the inferno, which destroyed stalls and goods worth thousands of dollars.
Addressing traders in Mbare at the groundbreaking ceremony and handover of the alternative market site to Mbare traders, Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe, said the urban renewal of Mbare as a whole is a top priority.
Minister Garwe said it is President Mnangagwa’s brainchild to ensure that all traders in Mbare have a safe, conducive modern working space.

“Today is a very important day as it entails the birth of a new Mbare market which will act as a temporary marketplace while construction at the official site commences,” he said.
“This initiative will not end at creating new marketplaces only, but it will extend to all parts of Mbare to re-urbanise the city of Harare.”
