MBIRA artiste and herbalist, Eunice Kapandura,  will this weekend hold a rain-making ceremony in Domboshava.

She said this was part of her efforts in contributing towards the resuscitation of the public’s environmental responsibilities in relation to climate change.

Dubbed Nhuruka, which means let it rain, the ceremony will be held on Saturday and Sunday at Let Them Village.

It is running under the theme, “Reconnecting With Our Culture, Let It Rain.”

Nhuruka literally means it has fallen and is the third rain-related event that celebrates the real downpouring of the rain.

“The main purpose of the event is to check on all community members if they have enough seed and share with those who do not have.

“We also want to emphasise on working for longer hours through songs,” she said.

She added:

“People are stuck in the same lifestyle, hence we are facing a lot of challenges which include mental illness and drug and substance abuse.”

She promised those who will attend the ceremony a rare experience.

“They will benefit from the exchange of tribe notes to be discussed in the plenary.

“Children will be given an opportunity to ask and share their thoughts on similar events to be held in the future.

“Those who love traditional food, traditional herbs and traditional brew are in for a good treat.”

Kapandura, who doubles up as US-based Thomas  Mapfumo’s backing vocalist, has been in the game for sometime.
