SOUTH Africa-based Mbirano founder, Claud “DJ Rabaaz” Rabson, has hit a purple patch across the Limpopo.
The singer, who fuses mbira with amapiano to come up with a distinct genre, says the experiment is paying off as fans have embraced him.
He said his stuff was in demand at South African radio stations where he has been receiving remarkable airplay.
Buoyed by the success of his latest EP titled ‘Gospel Mbirano,’ DJ Rabaaz has also featured gospel diva, Bethen Pasinawako, in one of the songs titled ‘Ndingakutendai Nei?’
It has beautiful visuals, which have been endorsed as a triumph.
In an interview, DJ Rabaaz has vowed to continue reinventing the wheel.
“It has always been a pleasure combining forces with a seasoned artist, especially Bethen, and this has helped me to hone my skills.
“She gelled with us in the studio as we introduced Mbirano is a new African sound blended with Zim’s traditional Mbira and fused with SA’s Amapiano elements.
“After pioneering the new sound last year, I have since recorded two 2 EPs and an album so far, which now gives me enough confidence to really focus on marketing the new sound,” he said.
DJ Rabaaz said he was also embracing new technology to market his stuff online.
“All released material can be found under all our digital platforms and music online stores and social media platforms.
“It is my dream to engage other gospel artists on his future projects coming soon,” he added.
The former John Chibadura band member doubles up as a sound engineer, which gives him an urge to continue experimenting with new sounds.
Despite being exposed to other cultures, he has never quit the Zimbabwe sound, which makes him original in his creations.
