THE bad political blood between Mr Nelson Chamisa-led MDC-Alliance and Dr Thokozani Khupe’s MDC-T has gone a level higher with allegations that the former is threatening the latter’s aspiring candidates with violence, disrupting their campaign rallies.
The threats of violence are affecting the otherwise peaceful election environment as candidates are now afraid of holding campaign rallies. Nketa-Mganwini constituency National Assembly candidate Mr Crispen Ndlovu told Sunday News in an interview that the Government has made the election environment as conducive as never seen before but expressed worry over isolated cases of threats of violence on them by the MDC-Alliance.
“My campaigns so far have been smooth. The election environment has generally been good. The only drawback is that we have been threatened with violence by MDC-Alliance supporters so we are always on the lookout for them,” he said.
Mr Ndlovu who is an artiste and a journalist by profession said despite the constituency having 17 candidates tussling to represent it, he is confident of winning. He said his confidence was born out of the fact that he did not impose himself on the people, neither was he imposed by his party. He said he was approached by the elders of the constituency who asked him to represent them after they were impressed by his pro-active approach in issues of development. He said he would seek to improve service delivery and make sure that police also get adequate resources so as to combat crime.
