Mr Moyo, a businessman in Bulawayo who felt “embarrassed” before party supporters he was canvassing votes from, later filed defamation charges against Mr Nyoni before their local leader, Headman Sikombingo.
Following a full trial which lasted about three hours, the headman referred the two to their party, arguing that he had no mandate to try politically motivated issues.
During the trial on Thursday, the gallery was kept in stitches as the two underwent rigorous cross-examination from Headman Sikombingo and his aides.
What made the court hearing more interesting was that even members of the public from the gallery were allowed to cross-examine the two, Mr Moyo and the accused Mr Nyoni.
Headman Sikombingo was at one point forced to stand up and call for order after Mr Moyo implied that he could have unwillingly touched Ms
Siwela’s leg while changing gears of his car when he gave her a lift in his car some time ago.
“Yes, my Lord, I once gave Nyoni’s wife a lift when we were coming from one of the (MDC-T party) meetings but I don’t remember even proposing love from her.
“Maybe I could have touched her leg while I was trying to change the gears of my car since she was in front with me.”
