Results of the women’s assembly poll were subsequently nullified by MDC-T national executive member Mr Amos Chibaya who presided over the restructuring exercise.
Mr Chibaya, who is also Mkoba legislator and police sources in Zvishavane, confirmed the infighting that characterised the elections. “I had to stop the elections because there were problems and infighting . . . These were just internal squabbles and nothing more,” Mr Chibaya said.
Sources who attended the meeting said two camps led by Midlands South provincial assembly chairperson, Ms Lillian Timveous and another by Midlands South provincial organising secretary Mr Alluis Zhou, caused the problems.
“Initially, the two camps disagreed on the criteria to select who was eligible to vote when over 300 people had turned up. The camps finally agreed that everyone present was eligible to vote and the election went ahead but mayhem ensued during announcement of the results,” said a source.
