Medvedev joins Russia’s ruling party

Meanwhile, Medvedev stressed that the United Russia was the largest and most influential political force in the country. 
“In my opinion, the party is fully capable of staying the leadership in a long-term perspective,” he said. 
Before leaving his post as president, Medvedev announced in April that he would join the ruling party and take up the party’s leadership.
Last December, Medvedev accepted incumbent Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s proposal to head the United Russia’s candidate list in parliamentary elections.
Founded in 2001, the United Russia is the dominant party in the country with more than two million members.
Putin, who was inaugurated as president on May 7 for a third term, has been the party’s leader since May 2008. — Xinhua.
