Sata declares total war on corruption

“The fight against corruption is a shared responsibility; it requires a comprehensive and all-inclusive approach,” the Zambian leader was quoted as saying by the paper at the start of a second Commonwealth Regional Conference of                     anti-corruption agencies in Africa in the southern city of Livingstone on Monday.
According to Sata, heads of state in Africa should step up the fight against corruption and help their anti-corruption agencies develop standard innovations in corruption prevention and investigation. 
The Zambian leader acknowledged that corruption had remained a huge challenge to African countries and the world at large and has called for the need to empower public service workers with adequate information on corruption and acceptable values for them to manage public resources with accountability. His government, he said, will fight corruption in its totality and would not tolerate anyone engaging in corruption whether in government or not.
The conference, held under the theme “Critical role of innovations in fighting corruption in public administration in Africa”, attracted more than 60 delegates from several African countries.
Speaking at the same occasion, the head of Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission, Rosewon Wandi, said the theme of the conference was timely in that it had come at a time when the world was undergoing fast transformation in the global village.
The official also said corruption in the public sector weakened democratic institutions, encouraged organised crime and undermined as well as compromised public service delivery. — Xinhua.
