Men up for car theft

Three men appeared in court facing car theft charges.

Collen Hoko, 25, Kudzanai Mukaro, 23, and Leeroy Dube, 22, were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

The trio will be back in court on February 13, for bail application.

Circumstances are that Hoko, Mukaro and Dube connived to steal the complainant’s vehicle which was parked at Harare’s Rainbow’s car park.

It is alleged that one stole the car keys and went to the car park, got into the Mitsubishi Lancer and drove away unnoticed.

The complainant reported the car theft to the police. Hoko, Mukaro and Dube used the vehicle in Kwekwe, but suspicions arose about where the trio got the car.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle had been stolen in Harare.

However, Dube denied stealing the car and said he was just a passenger in the vehicle.

“I did not know that the car was stolen. I got arrested just after paying my transport fare after asking for transport,” he said.

Essel Zinhiva appeared for the State.
