Sydney — As plans are being made to shift the hunt for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 further south the wife of pilot Zaharie Shah has finally spoken out, dropping a potential bombshell. Express reports that Faisa Shah spoke to the press over the weekend for the first time since the tragic incident where the Boeing 777 carrying 239 people on board mysteriously disappeared on March 8.
She told two New Zealand based journalists that the final words from the cockpit that night, “Good night Malaysia three seven zero” were indeed spoken by her husband and not his co-pilot, Fariq Abdul Hamid, as originally thought.
According to Inquisitr these words were spoken shortly before the plane veered way off course from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, flying instead far out over the Indian Ocean for reasons unknown.
His wife’s statement is expected to put Shah in the spotlight of the investigation once more, as it points to a deliberate action taken by the pilot.
Despite months of searching, there has been no concrete sign of the plane’s whereabouts.
Reuters reports that investigators say what little evidence they have to work with suggests the plane was deliberately diverted thousands of kilometres from its scheduled route before eventually plunging into the Indian Ocean.
The search was narrowed in April after a series of acoustic pings thought to be from the plane’s black box recorders were heard along a final arc where analysis of satellite data put its last location. But a month later, officials conceded the wreckage was not in that concentrated area, some 1 600 km off the northwest coast of Australia, and the search area would have to be expanded.
The next phase of the search mission is expected to start in August and take a year, covering some 60,000 sq kilometres of ocean at a cost of A$60 million (R597m at R9.96/Australian dollar) or more. The search is already the most expensive in aviation history. — AFP
