KWEKWE Sports Festival organiser, Simba “GS” Mhaka, has hailed all athletes who took part in the inaugural event that was held at Sanja Deck Sports Complex at the weekend.
The festival was the first to be held in the mining town since Kwekwe hosted a sports festival back in 2023 at Torwood.
Mhaka said the response was awesome.
“I am happy that we managed to host the inaugural Kwekwe Sports Festival which incorporated several sports codes like powerlifting, strength challenges, tug-of-war, fun run, bodybuilding and fitness, among other activities.
“I would like to thank our sponsor, Clifford Makiwa, the Sanja on the Deck co-owner, who made the event a success by offering the venue and all the necessary support.”
He added:
“We are happy that we managed to draw athletes from as far as Harare, Masvingo, Kadoma, Plumtree, Zvishavane, Gwanda and Bulawayo.
“The turn-out was impressive.
“We are glad to have been part of the event that was the first of its kind in the Midlands Province.
“The idea was to take the youths away from the vice of drugs and substance abuse.”
