FC PLATINUM have convinced reigning goalkeeper of the year, Petros Mhari to stay for two more years at the club.
Mhari has been a stalwart at the Zvishavane side for the past four years since he joined together with coach Tenant Chilumba, Winston Mhango and Aaron Katebe in 2013 from Hwange.
Last week he inked a new deal that will see him at FC Platinum until 2018 and putting to rest speculation that he was on his way out.
His contract was expiring at the end of this month and he was highly linked with a move to Harare City among other clubs.
“I signed last week. FC Platinum was my first option but I couldn’t rule out any chances of better offers. Two clubs approached me. All I needed was a better package than my previous contract. At times it doesn’t always go your way. We negotiated and agreed for two more years with the club,” Mhari said.
The gloveman was one of the big winners at the Castle Lager Premiership Soccer Stars of the Year awards.
Besides being voted among the best 11 players in the Premiership, Mhari was crowned the best goalkeeper and the second runner up in the Soccer Star of the Year category.
FC Platinum conceded the fewest goals in the league, 15, from 30 rounds of Premiership action while the former Hwange goalkeeper also managed to keep 18 clean sheets.
FC Platinum are yet to pin down defensive midfielder Mhango, also a 2016 Soccer Star of the Year finalist. He is in South Africa and he is yet to commit to the club after his contract expired.
Striker, Tarisai Rukanda is on his way out. He is linked with a move to Triangle next year after his contract at FC Platinum expired.
