FORMER World Boxing Organisation Intercontinental All-Africa champion, Tineyi Mharidzo, is battling to shed off weight as he prepares to launch his kick-boxing career with a light-heavyweight world title fight against holder Bonnie Louis of Papua New Guinea on May 5.
The highly-rated Zimbabwean boxer, who has been working hard to perfect his kicks, is sitting on 90kgs against the required weight of 77kgs in his category.
His trainer, Denver Wynne, who is also the technical director and vice-president of the World Kickboxing Federation, said the 34-year-old pugilist was working hard and is confident he will shed the extra weight in time for the contest.
“We have introduced a tight strength and conditioning weight programme for the Tinei Mharidzo as we prepare to challenge for the World Kickboxing light-heavyweight title. “The fighter is a natural hard worker and takes everything seriously as a professional. I don’t think it will be hard for us to achieve our target but it will be a daunting task,” he said. Waynne said it was not very difficult to convert the pugilist into a kick-boxing specialist.
