Superstar Oliver Mtukudzi on Monday scooped the Top Leadership Excellence Award at the Zimbabwe Leadership Awards (ZILA) held in the capital.
City Parking, a company owned by Harare City Council, was also honoured as the Company of the Year, while its general manager Mr Simon Muzviyo was named Managing Director of the Year.
The awards, which celebrate successes in various disciplines, including business, sports, education and the arts, are a brainchild of Dr Enrico Sibanda, the chief executive officer and founder of House of Enrico.
Speaking at the event, Dr Sibanda said the awards looked at quality leadership and the core values of a successful leader such as a strength, innovation, ingenuity, knowledge and foresight.
“ZILA also distinguishes and honours leaders who have contributed and shaped the Zimbabwean economy and visionaries behind today’s outstanding businesses and organisations,” he said.
Dr Mtukudz, he said, was honoured for his great contribution to the music industry.
“He also plays a pivotal role in shaping the Zimbabwean economy since he also creates employment in the music industry. He will receive the Top Leadership Excellence Award in the Arts and Entertainment category.”
Dr Mtukudzi thanked the organisers for honouring him.
“Thank you so much for recognising the man in me; yes, I play a guitar but the most important thing for me is to understand the purpose of song. It is a very difficult thing to be an artist without being a businessperson. You have to be a good businessperson for you to be a good artist,” he said.
He encouraged budding musicians to sing songs that touch and heal hearts. — Herald Reporter.
