PRAISE and worship singer Angeline Mhembere has collaborated with ZCC Mbungo Stars director Lucky Chikuwa on her spiritually uplifting song titled “Tinovimba Nemi.”
This opening track from her debut album, also named “Tinovimba Nemi,” was recorded at KOM Studios under the skilled hands of Knowledge Nkoma.
The collaboration shines in every aspect — arrangement, mixing and mastering — creating a sound that resonates deeply and leaves listeners yearning for paradise.
In this powerful song, Mhembere conveys the eternal gospel of having faith in God at all times. The album features several other tracks that contribute to its rich tapestry, including “Famba Nekutenda,” “Ishe Ndinzwe,” “Jesu Wakanaka,” “Mweya Mutsvene,” “Kutenda,” and “Izere.”
However, it is the title track that sets the tone for an experience that is nothing short of angelic to the ear.
Each song is crafted to uplift and inspire, drawing listeners into a deeper connection with their faith. In a recent interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Mhembere, who has been singing at church conferences and gatherings, expressed her readiness to continue producing more music.
“I have always been a praise and worship leader at Cranborne Community Church, but I was initially reluctant to record my music,” she admitted.
“However, I gathered the courage to take this step, and I am grateful to have management to help fulfil God’s mission through my art.”
Mhembere emphasised that her work as a gospel artiste is a calling.
“I see this as part of God’s ministry. Any financial rewards I receive will be seen as a bonus,” she stressed.
Her dedication to her craft and her faith shines through, making her a beacon of hope and inspiration in the gospel music scene.
The mother of two revealed that it was a marvel working with Chikuwa, known for his hit “Ndire Ndire.”
“It took just a phone call to convince him to come and work with me. I was humbled by his love and dedication, which made our job easier.
“We are currently in the process of shooting videos to complement the audio recordings.
“I have managed to conduct several radio interviews, and to be honest, I am enjoying every moment,” she remarked.
Mhembere, who was raised in a Christian family in Dzivaresekwa, Harare, before moving to Cranborne, has loved singing from a tender age.
“I think I was just born a singer because I would lead choirs while growing up in a Christian household.
“My mother always advised me to have faith in God. I am also imparting the same principles to my two daughters, aged 19 and 13, respectively,” she said.
Drawing inspiration from American gospel superstar Tasha Cobbs and Nigerian artist Judikay, Mhembere dreams of sharing the stage with them.
“Locally, I have quite a number of artists who inspire me, such as Jah Prayzah, Feli Nandi, and many others.
“My biggest inspirations outside Zimbabwe are Tasha Cobbs and Judikay. We learn from those who started before us, and that is the only way we can improve and be counted among the stars,” she explained.
Mhembere, who has also invested in her poultry business, urged fellow musicians to always have a fallback plan.
“The Covid-19 lockdown opened my mind to the importance of not putting all my eggs in one basket. Job losses and pay cuts were enforced, but it was also a time when new entrepreneurs emerged.
“As gospel musicians, we should not sit on our talents and expect miracles to happen,” she remarked.
Looking to the future, Mhembere emphasises the importance of networking and collaboration among artistes.
“I believe that by working together, we can uplift each other and reach greater heights. Our industry is rich with talent, and by supporting one another, we can create a more vibrant and dynamic music scene.”
Outlining her vision, she stated that going international is her ultimate dream.
“We all want to go far, and I firmly believe it can happen with God’s grace, consistency, and hard work. I can’t wait for my time to shine, and I believe that time is now,” she shared.
With her debut album, Mhembere not only shares her beautiful voice but also her unwavering commitment to spreading joy and faith through music.
