FC Platinum finally broke their seven-match win-less curse with a gritty 2-1 triumph over CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium on Wednesday, and no one embodied that renewed spirit more than midfielder Devine Mhindirira.
The much-needed win not only revived the former champions’ title hopes but also injected fresh belief into a squad desperate to turn the tide in this year’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign. The victory was crucial, ending a frustrating run that had seen the Platinum miners last taste success in only their second league fixture, a win over Manica Diamonds.
Midfielder Mhindirira expressed optimism about the team’s resurgence and their fight for the title, emphasising the hard work being put in to shift momentum.
“We are happy with this win, especially after a tough seven-game win-less streak. We were unlucky in some matches, but today we worked hard and were good with the ball. Everyone gave their all to secure this result,” he said.
Since joining FC Platinum, Mhindirira has evolved into a more team-oriented player, a transformation he attributes to the club’s winning culture and selfless philosophy.
“The Devine you see now at Platinum is a bit different from the one you used to know. Here, it’s more about teamwork, putting the team first, not individuals,” he explained.
Despite his personal growth, Mhindirira admitted that the team’s early-season struggles were unexpected but remains confident in their collective quality.
“As a team, we are very good, but seasons differ, and every season comes with its own challenges. We believe in ourselves, and we have to work hard to achieve our goals.”
With this latest result, FC Platinum has reignited hopes of a serious push for the league title. Mhindirira outlined his ambitions, both personal and team-driven. “For me, it’s time to keep working hard and try to turn things our way. I look forward to winning the league title and maybe being a Soccer Star of the Year finalist. It’s also my wish to see our team providing three players on the calendar,” he said.
He acknowledged the competitiveness of the league this season, especially with newly promoted sides punching above their weight.
“This season, there are a number of strong teams, including the new boys, so it’s going to be tough. But we are ready for the challenge.”
“We have the quality, now it’s about consistency. This win is just the beginning,” he added.
Mhindirira also highlighted the influence of teammate Brian Banda, with whom he previously played at Highlanders in 2019.
“Our squad has a lot of quality and options, which makes me enjoy playing alongside my teammates. But it feels special having Brian Banda on the pitch. We understand each other well, and when I arrived here, he welcomed me and helped me adapt, which was a major boost,” he said.
