THE late Bulawayo City Council town clerk, Mr Middleton Nyoni, will be buried at Lady Stanley Cemetery on Friday.
In a statement, Bulawayo mayor Councillor Martin Moyo said the late town clerk will be buried at Lady Stanley Cemetery before inviting residents to attend a memorial service that will be held at the Large City Hall tomorrow.
“Residents of Bulawayo, stakeholders and sister local authorities are invited to the memorial service of the late town clerk of the City of Bulawayo, Mr Middleton Nyoni which will be held on Thursday, 1st October 2015, at the Large City Hall from 3pm to 6pm,” he said.
“The burial service will be held on Friday 2 October from 8am at Pelandaba Seventh Day Adventist Church followed by burial at Lady Stanley Cemetery.”
Our news crew visited Mr Nyoni’s home in Woodlands and met his uncle Mr Douglas Vundla who said the family is still devastated by the loss. He also added that funeral arrangements were going on well.
“We are still trying to accept that Nyoni is surely no more. The family lost a dedicated and caring son whom will always be missed. For burial arrangements, everything is going on well as and people are running around preparing for the burial,” Mr Vundla said.
Mr Nyoni has been on leave since late last year and in his absence the chamber secretary, Mrs Sikhangele Zhou, has been acting town clerk.
Mr Nyoni died on Sunday died at the age of 62 after a after a long battle with a cancer ailment.
He is survived by his wife Thabiso and four children.
Mr Nyoni was appointed town clerk on 6 May 2009 and has been in that position until his untimely death.
He joined the Bulawayo City Council as section accounting officer (audit) on 1 December 1983 and held various positions in council which included senior accounting officer, principal accountant (main accounts), assistant city treasurer (accountancy), deputy city treasurer and city treasurer.
Mourners are gathered at Number 5 Inglewood Place, Woodlands, Bulawayo.
