MIDLANDS Province has donated 145 cattle and $1 840 to President Mugabe that will go towards the donation to the African Union Foundation.
President Mugabe pledged 300 cattle to the AU Foundation during his tenure as chairperson of the continental body aimed at contributing in support of programmes such as building health capacity and strengthening education.
The African Union Foundation is the brainchild of African Heads of State and Government and was created for the purposes of collaborating with the private sector, philanthropists, individuals and the diaspora to solicit donations and seek voluntary contributions towards the financing of Africa’s development priorities in pursuit of Agenda 2063.
The Foundation seeks to promote the development of skills and human resources on the continent, women empowerment and gender equality and to promote integration and management of diversity, youth development and entrepreneurship, advocacy and support for the African Union.
Zanu-PF Midlands chairman Engineer Daniel McKenzie Ncube said the province was now waiting to hand over the cattle.
“As a province we have raised 145 cattle and $1 840 that would be handed over to President Mugabe and will be part of the donation to the African Union. We were supposed to hand over the cattle to the President next week but the dates have been moved. I am happy to announce that we have surpassed the number of cattle that we were supposed to contribute as a province,” he said.
Eng Ncube said the cattle will be auctioned soon when the delegation from AU visits the country. Some of the cattle are being kept by Kadoma businessman Mr Jimayi Muduvuri.
