Mighty Warriors hopeful despite poor preparations

MIGHTY Warriors skipper Talent Mandaza says despite poor preparations, they are still confident they can spring a surprise at the Africa Women Cup of Nations which begins on November 19 in Cameroon.

The team, which will play a friendly international against South Africa in Harare on Thursday, has been training for the past three days.

“We are confident that we will achieve something in Cameroon. We have been active with our clubs before we came in camp,” said Mandaza.

“Most of the players in the squad were at the Olympics so we know each other well in terms of coordination and combinations.

“If we manage to progress to the semi-finals then anything can happen.”

The Black Rhinos midfielder said she wants to carry on the good work which was done by her predecessor Felistas Muzongondi.

“It is an honour to be the captain of Zimbabwe national team. I hope to achieve more and carry from where Figo left.

“Before I went for military training, some few years back, I was the vice-captain to Onai Chingawo and I have been learning how other leaders do it and I hope I will also emulate that,” said Mandaza.

Mighty Warriors midfielder Mavis Chirandu is the only player who is yet to report for camp.

Cameroon, stepped up their preparations this weekend when they met Kenya in an international friendly in Limbe on Sunday. Again they prevailed over the tournament debutantes winning 2-1.
