MIGHTY Warriors striker Rudo Neshamba said they will keep a positive attitude in future assignments to cover up for Sunday’s disappointment when they crashed out of the African Games after a 2-2 draw to Ghana in the final qualifying match at Rufaro. The African Games formerly the All-Africa Games are scheduled for Brazzaville, Congo from September 4 to 19. However, there had been confusion from Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela indicating saying the Games were now in Senegal.
Zimbabwe needed nothing short of a win on Sunday but they only managed to settle for a draw as they found the going tough in a match. The Mighty Warriors made that mistakes that gave the visitors an upper hand the hosts had to always chase the game.
Neshamba, who scored one of the goals for Zimbabwe said it was a difficult match considering that Ghana are the second best country in Africa behind Nigeria while they are ranked outside the top 10 on the continent.
She said they will not lose hope but will look at the Olympic Games qualifiers starting this month where they play Zambia.
“It was a difficult game although we managed to contain them and we managed to score two goals. We are looking forward to the qualifiers and we are not looking down. We are going to keep our heads up high and prepare for the next qualifying match. Definitely we are going to win considering we managed a draw with Ghana, the powerhouse
“I am comparing Zambia to Ghana. Ghana is a better team than Zambia so if we managed to contain Ghana we won’t fail to beat Zambia,” said Neshamba.
Women Football chairperson, Miriam Sibanda said, with the adequate resources and support, the Mighty Warriors could have done better on Sunday.
“I think it’s a good team, if they had everything that is required to prepare, they would have done better but in the circumstances they did a very good job.
“We might be out but we played very well and I think we have had a good start to our international commitment. We have the Olympic qualifiers coming if the girls can keep up the momentum and the country can keep the momentum in terms of support, I am sure we will be able to do better when we play Zambia.
“Our chances are good, there are some areas that I think the technical team needs to work on. What I saw is that our girls they were always second to the ball so we need to increase on our speed and stamina. But generally in terms of the passing and all it was good play,” Sibanda said.
