MIGHTY Warriors gaffer, Shaddy Mlauzi, has declared his charges ready to battle against Tanzania in the African Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifier second leg this Sunday at Rufaro Stadium. Mlauzi is bubbling with confidence since his girls are carrying a 2-1 win from the first leg which was played two weeks ago at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salam, Tanzania.
The history making former Inline Academy coach, said everyone was ready and that moral in the camp was very high. “So far so good, though we did not start the second leg preparations well after the girls went on strike.
“It is now water under the bridge as we have since moved on with our preparations,” he said. In the first leg, the Mighty Warriors staged a brilliant show, coming from behind to win.
Tanzania took an early lead in the 18th minute through Omary Mwanahamis, before Zimbabwean striker, Erina Jeke levelled the score for Zimbabwe two minutes later.
Jeke sealed the victory three minutes later in the first half and the team is hoping to continue with their fine run on Sunday. A win on Sunday means that they will book a place in the last qualifying round against either Zambia or Namibia in April.
About seven countries from these qualifiers will go to Cameroon from November 19 to December 3 for the finals which Zimbabwe first participated in 2000 and was hosted by South Africa.
Mlauzi has urged supporters to come in their numbers to rally behind the Mighty Warriors. “We promise all our supporters that we won’t disappoint them.
“We will leave a mark in every competition that we will take part in and the girls are highly talented. “It was not a surprise that we managed to dismiss our opponents in their own backyard, somehow we deserved it.
“With the right preparations and support, we will shock the world and I am very positive about it,” he said. Mighty Warriors raised the national flag high after dismissing their highly fancied opponents and African giants, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon last year.
They qualified for the Rio Olympics Games after grinding a one-nil victory at National Sports Stadium to join South Africa’s Banyana Banyana who also qualified.
