Min Muswere says media key in building national consciousness

George Maponga

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has challenged his ministry to play a leading role in building national consciousness in the country.

Dr Muswere, who was addressing senior officials from his ministry during a strategic plan review workshop near Lake Mutirikwi in Masvingo, said his ministry is at the centre of setting the national narrative.

The workshop kicked off on Monday and ends tomorrow. He emphasised the importance of the ministry working to fulfill its information dissemination mandate to make sure Zimbabweans in all corners are well informed in the spirit of leaving no one and no place behind.

Dr Muswere pointed out that his ministry has a key role in making sure the media and all stakeholders in the sector become part of the drive to build the national narrative.

This he said dovetails with the vision to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income society by 2030.

The minister pointed out that the workshop is an opportunity to cure the ills from the current year so that the year 2025 is predisposed to help the ministry fulfill its mandate as Zimbabwe angles for Vision 2030.

The Minister said the strategic plan review workshop would also devise ways of cutting costs in the ministry and give priority to growing the asset base that is crucial in driving forward its mandate.

The ministry also envisaged a media ecosystem that could effectively inform and communicate using all the country’s 16 official languages for the benefit of Zimbabweans in all corners of the country.
