THE Ministry of Mines and Mining Development has engaged the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency to ensure they are well-versed with the country’s mining policies so that they are adequately guided when they interact with potential investors.

This was said by Mines and Mining Development Minister Dr Polite Kambamura in the National Assembly while responding to questions from backbenchers on Wednesday.

The questions followed the Government’s decision to ban raw mineral exports and lithium concentrates.

“Government is taking many measures to make sure that the policies we are putting in place are not going to be talk shows but will be transformed into practicality,” he said.

“To start with, as I have said, we are currently firming up on mineral development policies. These will speak to beneficiation strategies for each particular mineral.

“Number two, we are also going to be instituting standard operating procedures at the entry level for our investments. We have been discussing with ZIDA so that when investors come, they are fully briefed on Government expectations with regard to mineral development and beneficiation.

“We are also going around to check if companies or the industry are complying with Government expectations with regard to mineral value addition and beneficiation. The current ban on export of unbeneficiated minerals or partially-beneficiated minerals is enough testament that we are walking the talk, and we want to see beneficiation facilities built in the country. Already, several companies have set up base in the country in that regard.”
