THE Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Lieutenant General Anselem Sanyatwe (Retired), today commissioned a state-of-the-art multipurpose sport facility at Oliver Juru Primary School in Goromonzi district.
The initiative underscores the Government’s commitment to talent development across the country.
The court can host volleyball, netball and tennis and is expected to be utilised by the school as well as the community.
The event was also attended by Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Itayi Ndudzo as well as other Government officials.
In his remarks, Minister Sanyatwe highlighted the importance of the facility in the community.
“It is with immense pride and deep appreciation that I stand before you today at the commissioning of Oliver Juru Multi-Purpose Sport Facility,” he said.
“This landmark project is a testament to our collective commitment to the development of sports infrastructure, consequently, enhancing sports and recreation across our beloved country, Zimbabwe.
“This inevitably dovetails with the Second Republic’s development philosophy; leaving no one and no place behind. As we gather here today, we are reminded of our national trajectory as articulated in Vision 2030. The vision enjoins us as a nation to work towards the attainment of a prosperous, inclusive and empowered society.
“To that end, this facility we are commissioning today is partial fulfilment of our desired national status. It indeed embodies our collective commitment to fostering an environment where every citizen can engage in healthy activities and build community spirit at the same time, developing their raw talents to their full potential.”
He added that the project underscores the Government’s dedication to sports development as a catalyst for economic growth and social cohesion in conformity with the national development blueprints, the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which will soon be replaced by the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) in 2026.
He said that by investing in facilities of that nature, the nation is not only promoting physical well-being but also nurturing the rich potential of youths, paving the way for a brighter future for individuals at the micro level and the nation at large at the macro level.
