Lungisani Ncube from Bulawayo’s Magwegwe suburb has appeared before Gwanda magistrate for allegedly defrauding Akjert Mine of US$5 300 after he allegedly sold a non-existent mine.
Ncube, recently appeared before magistrate, Talent Phiri and pleaded not guilty to a fraud charge. Ncube was represented by his lawyer Task Vhiki and was granted a fine of US$300. He was ordered to stay at the address he supplied to the court until the matter was finalised.
He was also ordered not to interfere with state witnesses and to report every Friday at Gwanda Police Station. The court heard that Ncube allegedly hatched a plan to defraud Mthabisi Moyo who owns Akjert Mine in Gwanda, Matabeleland South Province.
It was heard in court that Ncube misrepresented that he was the owner of Muco syndicate which owns Makwe 7 Mine. After convincing him, Ncube allegedly entered into an agreement with Moyo and sold the mine for US$5 300 to Akjert.
However, on May 3, things turned upside down for Ncube after Moyo was informed by his two former employees Innocent Ndlovu and Blessing Marumisa that Ncube did not own the mine.
After that, the matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out. It was established through the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development that Muco syndicate owns Makwe 7.
