Mukudzei Chingwere in Chiadzwa
Government is enthused by the minerals beneficiation trajectory taken by the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has said.
Vice President Chiwenga said this after touring the ZCDC Deep Boiling Facility in Chiadzwa this afternoon.
“In the diamond sector, we envision opening of new mines from exploration projects that are currently ongoing, expansion of existing projects, increased capacity utilisation, as well as value addition and beneficiation,” said VP Chiwenga.
“The diamond sector is presently under threat as synthetic diamonds have taken a 15 percent market share of the rough diamond sector. We need to protect the sector.
“Let me applaud the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company for the state-of-the-art deep boiling facility,” said VP Chiwenga.
He said he appreciated the essence of the facility and would take his observations straight to President Mnangagwa.
The VP also reminded ZCDC that it is Government policy for communities where mining takes place to be empowered to sustain their livelihoods.
