Mining companies and other corporates operating in Mashonaland East have been urged to give back to the communities they operate in and ensure that the livelihoods of residents are transformed.

The call was made by the Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Dr Apolonnia Munzverengwi during her tour of the Goromonzi-Kubatsirana road which is being upgraded.

The upgrading of a 16 km stretch from Majuru Business Centre to Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe’s processing plant site is being funded by the mining company.

“Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe should be commended for upgrading this road,” Dr Munzverengwi said.

“They are surfacing this road and this is a step in the right direction. People residing near this road will no longer be affected by dust caused by heavy trucks since it is currently a gravel road.

“Let me urge other companies operating in this province to emulate what PLZ is doing here in Goromonzi. This is good evidence of corporate social responsibility and we applaud the company for this.”
