LOCAL Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe has commissioned utility vehicles for Chikomba Rural District Council, demonstrating the local authority’s commitment to enhancing quality service delivery to the people.
The vehicles comprise a fire tender, a water bowser and a refuse compactor, which are essential to the day-to-day operations of the council.
“As you are aware, President Mnangagwa introduced ‘The Call to Action, No compromise to service delivery blueprint’. Following that directive, we then said, what needs to be done by our local authorities to be able to improve service delivery. One such thing is to ensure that we equip them with the equipment that they require.
“So here today we are commissioning this equipment for the Chikomba Rural District Council. We want to commend the council for this. They have done well and we hope other local authorities will emulate this good work,” he said.
Minister Garwe said President Mnangagwa launched two important policies that guide local authorities in their operations.
“Also, last year in September, President Mnangagwa launched two most critical policies for the local authority sector, which are the Minimum Service Delivery Standards and the Urban State Land Management policies.
“So under the Minimum Service Delivery policy, it is imperative that local authorities are capacitated with equipment like this, that we are commissioning here today.”
In his remarks, Chikomba RDC council chairman Alderman Israel Dhikinya thanked President Mnangagwa for the devolution funds, which the council used to acquire equipment as well as for developing the district.
