THE father of the Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Advocate Martin Dinha, Cde Michael Dinha, has died. He had a heart attack yesterday morning. Adv Dinha said burial was set for tomorrow in Bindura. Mourners are gathered at the minister’s residence in the town.
“He passed on at 8:15am this (yesterday) morning in Shamva where he was staying,” he said from Bindura. “He will be laid to rest at Cottco Cemetery here in Bindura on Saturday.”
Adv Dinha said his father was a political prisoner of the Rhodesian colonial regime between 1973 and 1979 and was detained at Salisbury, Gonakudzingwa and Whawha prisons for inciting teachers and pupils to oppose the racist government led by Ian Smith.
“He also recruited freedom fighters when he was a teacher in Nyanga, for which he was punished by the colonial regime through detention,” Adv Dinha said.
Cde Dinha is survived by his wife Fatima, five children, 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
