adminIn letters addressed to board members on December 20 last year, Minister Kasukuwere said the dismissal was with immediate effect. He did not give reasons for the dismissal.
“I have taken a decision with immediate effect to reconstitute the Zimbabwe Youth Council Board. In this regard, the positions to the board will be re-advertised and an elaborate selection process will be spelt thereafter.
“You, however, remain eligible to apply for the council’s membership in the new process,” reads part of the letter.
In an interview yesterday, ZYC board chairman Mr Hamilton Pazvakavambwa confirmed the development. He said Minister Kasukuwere had indicated that he wanted to reconstitute the board.
Mr Pazvakawambwa said some board members had reached the 35 years age limit.
“It is not dissolution of the board,” he said. “The Minister said he wanted to reconstitute the board and the current board members were eligible to reapply.
“The board should have 15 members and we were only 12 and the board was not fully constituted. All board members should be between the age of 15 and 35 and some of the members are now above that age limit.”
Another board member who refused to be named said they were fired after they came late to a meeting that was supposed to be held on December 16 in Victoria Falls.
“We went for a retreat in Victoria Falls and there was a meeting that we were suppose to have with the Minister and his deputy on December 16.
“As board members we decide to have our own meeting before we met the minister.
“When we go to the main boardroom to meet the Minister, he told us that we were late for the meeting and we were fired. The whole thing was actually vague,” the board member said.
Board members fired include Mr Chris Mutangadura, Mr Luckson Kandemiiri, Tanaka Manyadza, and Lawrence Mashungu among others.
Efforts to get comment from Minister Kasukuwere were fruitless as his mobile phone was unreachable.
