adminThe arrests were made during a joint border operation with other security agencies. Fifty of the suspects appeared in court yesterday charged with contravening a section of the Immigration Act. They were fined between US$150 and US$300 each for the offence.
Police officer commanding Beitbridge district, Chief Superintendent Lawrence Chinhengo said among those arrested were 30 suspects who were known for facilitating irregular migration.
He said some of the cars were impounded while parked at homes in villages on the peripheries of the border town, which were being used as safe havens for illegal immigrants. He said the operation was on going until further notice.
Some of the villages used by the border jumpers include Makhakavhule, Dite and Panda mine.
