Minister expresses excitement ahead of England Test Match

As Zimbabwe prepares to take on England in a one-off Test match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, England, starting on May 22, 2025, Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Tongai Mnangagwa, has expressed excitement about the potential of sports tourism to drive economic growth and development in the country.

This match will be the first Test match between the two teams in over two decades, making it a highly anticipated event.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub from the United Kingdom after he toured the match venue and met with the Chevrons team while accompanied by the Zimbabwean Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Colonel Christian Katsande, the Minister highlighted the government’s enthusiasm for sports tourism and its potential to attract visitors and create revenue opportunities.

“We are excited about the potential of sports tourism to drive economic growth and development in Zimbabwe,” said Minister Mnangagwa.

“We are committed to supporting sports development and tourism initiatives, and we believe that this match will be a great opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase its cricketing talent on the world stage.”

The Chevrons, Zimbabwe’s national cricket team, are looking to win this Test and set the tone ahead of the South Africa and New Zealand incoming tours, and this match is expected to draw significant attention from fans and tourists alike. With the Chevrons set to take on one of the world’s top cricketing nations, fans are eagerly anticipating the match and the excitement it promises to bring.
