Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe is leading a delegation from Zimbabwe which will be attending the 92nd session of the Interpol General Assembly in Glasgow, Scotland.

The session which will be running from November 4 to 7 is being held under the theme, “Police Integrity, Accountability and Oversight”.

As the supreme governing body of Interpol, the general assembly meets annually to make decisions on policy, resources, working methods, finances, and programmes.

Part of the 92nd session agenda includes the appointment of Valdecy Urquiza of Brazil as the next secretary-general. He will take over from Jürgen Stock, who has completed his second and final mandate after 10 years.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Minister Kazembe also attended the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Annual Liaison Function for Law Enforcement at Australia House in London.

The event, held a week before the 92nd session of the Interpol General Assembly, was meant to celebrate and recognise AFPs international partnerships, cooperation and operational outcomes.

In a comment after the London stopover, Minister Kazembe said he also took the opportunity to meet with the embassy officials in London to appreciate the challenges being faced by the diaspora community.

“I went to meet with the embassy staff to hear more about the challenges our diasporans are facing in terms of civil documents,” he said.

“The intention was to have an appreciation of the challenges our citizens are facing and also look at the possibilities of establishing an enrollment centre for passports and other identification documents.”
