THE Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Cde Andrew Langa will tomorrow tour cultural centres in Bulawayo and meet local artistes ahead of an arts and culture Indaba pencilled for the end of the month. The Indaba will be held from October 29 to 30. National Arts Council of Zimbabwe communications and marketing officer Cathrine Mthombeni said the tour would allow the minister to get an inside look at the arts centres and problems affecting them.

“The objectives of the tour are to allow for the Minister to sample the activities happening at the major arts centres in Bulawayo, provide a platform for the captains of the arts and culture to interact with the Minister and provide content for the Indaba that will be held at end of October through issues that artistes may raise with the Minister,” she said.

Artistes in the city have been waiting for an opportunity to sit down with the minister and discuss with him their challenges. Mthombeni said Cde Langa would visit Amakhosi Cultural Centre, Black Umfolosi Centre and Isalukazi Centre.

“The minister will visit the following places in the morning Amakhosi at 9.15AM, Black Umfolosi Centre in Entumbane at 10.15AM and Isalukazi Centre in Njube at 11.00AM. This will be an opportunity for the minister to interact with artistes during the tour,” she said.

Mthombeni said at Amakhosi Cultural Centre Cde Langa would plant a tree and receive presentations of publications produced by the centre.
“The Minister will be requested to plant a tree at Amakhosi Cultural Centre as part of the Legacy Project at the Centre.

“He will also receive some presentations of publications that were done through Amakhosi,” she said.
After the Bulawayo tour, Mthombeni said Cde Langa would travel to Matabeleland South where he would end the tour of the southern region.

“The minister will go to Amagugu Cultural Centre, which was established by renowned historian Pathisa Nyathi. It is situated in the rural district of Matopo,” she said.
